As Hip-Hop turned 50, the sounds that began in a rec room at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in The Bronx have become an international phenomenon dominating pop culture from music to fashion to art.
Like Jazz and Country music before it, Hip-Hop is a uniquely American invention and has become profoundly intertwined with the American experience and identity.
This project was an opportunity to show how deeply ingrained Hip-Hop culture has become in modern society, reaching the apex of American tradition - the U.S. Army.
To support this milestone, I had the privilege of art directing a partnership and film 5-6 minutes in length to tell the unique story of SSG Riddick and SSG Feemster, the first rappers to become official members of the U.S. Army Field Band.
Using a cinematic approach, we shared their story of a lifelong passion for Hip-Hop music and culture - diving into how they channel that passion into a career in the U.S. Army with new roles emblematic of today's Armed Forces.
